Marcus Almeida Buchecha’s Knee Injury (Motivation for injured athletes)

I recently stumbled upon a video of the current World Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Open Weight Champion Marcus Buchecha Almeida talking about his knee injury.

I found his story to be inspiring to me because I am currently going through my own ACL injury.

In the 2015 World Championships Buchecha tore 3 ligaments in his knee. If you don’t know how bad that is, just know that tearing even one ligament can end your athletic career. He tore three that day.

12 months later he came back and won the same tournament.

On the left is a photo of him being carried out after tearing his knee up. The photo on the right is from 12 months later when he won the 2016 World Championships.

If you are going through an injury I highly encourage you to check out the full interview here. This was right before the 2016 Worlds.

Buchecha came back the next year and won the World Championships. In an interview he said he had about 2 months of solid training before the competition. Here are is some footage of his performance at the 2016 Worlds:
