How long have you been training with Mike?
I started training with Mike about 2 years ago, and since then my workouts have been very different than what I used to do in the past.

How has working out with Mike changed the way you train?
Before training with Mike, I had been a member at a gym for 2 or 3 years, but I didn’t really get any noticeable results despite working out fairly regularly. I used to do lots of aerobic cardio, so 30 mins to 1 hour on things like the elliptical machine or the stationary bike, and I never lifted weights or did any strength workouts because I thought those types of workouts would make me very bulky and too muscular and I just wanted to be lean and toned.

When I started training with Mike, my workouts completely changed, and I haven’t done any aerobic cardio since then. My training routine now consists of maximal strength workouts, with dumbbells and barbells, explosive strength workouts with dumbbells, barbells, resistance bands, and bodyweight exercises, and lots of high intensity interval training with exercises like hill sprints, boxing, treadmill sprints, burpees, and bodyweight tabata intervals. The workouts are much more intense than what I used to do in the past, but the workouts are also much more fun, and the results have been amazing.

What kind of results have you experienced?

In the 2 years that I’ve trained with Mike I’ve had some amazing results in terms of my appearance. My body now looks completely different than it did 2 years ago. I gained muscle and I lost fat, so while I only lost 10 lbs. on the scale, it really looks more like 20 lbs. because I’m much more toned than I was before. I’ve learned not to even weigh myself any more, but to focus more on inches and how my clothes fit. Before training with Mike, I used to be a size 8 or 10, and now I’m anywhere from a 4 to a 6 depending on the brand. For someone who is 5’9″, that is a big difference, and I’m very happy with those results. Plus, I used to have a very flat butt, and now it’s actually round and muscular! Very awesome change in that department.

In terms of my fitness level, I am much stronger and my cardio is much better than it was in the past. I have learned how to workout with a lot of intensity, and that has had a big impact on my fitness levels. I never used to be able to do a bodyweight pushup, and now I can do 20 in a row, which for me is amazing since before training with you I had actually never done a full pushup in my life!

I have also learned a lot of new movements that I didn’t know before, and I’m happy about that, because I probably never would have learned how to box or how to do barbell squats if I hadn’t gotten a personal trainer to teach me.

What’s your favourite exercise or workout routine?

My favourite exercises are maximal strength exercises like barbell squats and deadlifts, because I love lifting heavy weights and feeling strong. I never used to lift weights in the past, but now I’ve discovered that I really love to lift.

My favourite workout routine that we do during our training sessions is definitely the boxing routines. Boxing is such a great explosive strength workout, and it is also an awesome cardio workout, plus it helps me relieve a lot of stress, so I always look forward to it. I like having a trainer to do boxing workouts with because you’re able to fix my technique and to really help me push myself when I’m getting tired during the punching drills.
