Day 4 and 5 After ACL Surgery – Rehab Begins

Last night I actually slept through most of the night without waking up. I woke up once to go to the bathroom but that was it.

Seeing how far I can get my knee to bend at rehab. 83 degrees on 4th day.

Getting up is a bit painful every time so it kind of sucks.

I notice when I am lying down my leg feels OK but when I am standing up the pain definitely increases.

My girlfriend came over and drove me to the rehab clinic. I was scheduled for an assessment.

After asking a few questions my physiotherapist attached some electrical wires to my leg and began to stimulate my quad muscles. It freakin’ hurt!

By flexing my quads so hard it forced me to straighten my knee fully which I haven’t done in a few days. So that was new. I am about 8 degrees off from straightening my leg all the way.

After that we did some bending tests and so far I am at 83 degrees. My goal is 90 by week 2 which I’m sure I will hit.

Waking up my quad muscles. It freakin’ hurt!

After the session my physio gave me some exercises to do on my own: flexing my quads, leg raises, knee bends, and ankle pumps.

In general the pain level was beginning to go down but after doing the rehab exercises the pain level went up. When I am lying down it’s at a 3-5/10 but when standing it’s a 7/10.

It was hurting but for some reason I was laughing in between sets. Maybe I lost my mind.

The good news is that every day I am getting a little bit better and more mobile. The pain is a little bit less.

I assume that as I become more active I will experience more pain. I am also icing my knee 6-8 times per day.

That’s all to report for today. If you have any questions leave a comment. Talk to you soon!
